19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on court had led some to question if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional championship, took control to force a decider.

He defended 4 early chances in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
